The movie is definitely related to computer and network security. The hardware and software related to the artificial intelligent robot, Ava, require lots of protection. The entire facility that Nathan and Caleb lives in this 7 days are protected by various technology to prevent security breach from either inside or outside. There are security doors which requires card with correct authorization. There are also many surveillance cameras. There is even no mobile network in that area which is a very efficient way to prevent information leak. Besides the hardware to protect the secret inside the facility. There must be a central computer that takes care of all the safety protocol. For example, when Caleb first enter the facility, the system automatically verify his identification and allows him to enter. Another example is when power is shut down, the default protocol is to lock all the doors of the facility so that no one can use that time to break into forbidden rooms. However, within such rigorous security system, there are some defects which makes hacking the system easy. The facility only uses card to verify the identity of a person. Just like in the movie, if Caleb steal Nathan’s card, he will have the full authority to enter any room and make changes. Such defect leads to the hacking activity of Caleb. The hacker does not get access from network. The access of Nathan’s computer is simply acquired by make him drunk and get his card which is low tech techniques. The purpose of the hacking is to both get information about Ava and change security protocol. In conclusion, sometimes a little defect of the security hardware and software could lead to serious consequences. Nathan’s facility seems to prevent any means of hacking through the network but it doesn’t take into account of the simple and easy low tech technique of hacking.
